VIRTUAL REALITY MUSEUMS & CULTURE TRILJ, CROATIA

Centuria VR Experience

Step into a Roman military camp and live a day as a legionary – in virtual reality.

For the Trilj Regional Museum we created an immersive VR application that authentically reconstructs a Roman centuria. Visitors walk through the soldiers’ quarters, examine weapons and armour up close and try sword training themselves – all built on the museum’s own references.

About the project

A Roman camp you can walk through

A centuria was the backbone of the Roman army – around eighty soldiers who lived, trained and ate together. We rebuilt their camp in virtual reality: ten contubernia where the soldiers slept, a shared cooking area, training grounds and wooden palisades.

Every weapon, piece of armour and furnishing is modelled on references from the museum, so visitors don’t just see a game – they see history as it really looked.

Goals
  1. Recreate an authentic Roman centuria in VR for educational purposes
  2. Provide an immersive experience of military life using advanced VR technology
  3. Combine historical accuracy with interactive storytelling
  4. Enable intuitive exploration and learning for every visitor
Inside the experience

Not just watching history – living it

Free exploration

Walk around the camp physically or teleport between locations – whatever feels natural.

Objects up close

Pick up, rotate and examine historical objects in detail, just as a soldier would have used them.

Sword training

Interactive sword training simulations put visitors in the shoes of a Roman recruit.

Museum-accurate 3D

Weapons, armour and furnishings modelled on the museum’s own historical references.

Behind the experience

Built for museums, not labs

Museum VR has to work every day, for every visitor – without technicians, cables or a gaming PC. That’s why Centuria runs standalone on Meta Quest 3, optimised to look great and stay smooth.

  • Developed in UnityA production-grade engine that lets us balance visual quality and performance.
  • Standalone Meta Quest 3No PC or cables – easy for museum staff to run and for visitors to put on.
  • Full movement systemsPhysical walking and teleportation, so the experience is comfortable for everyone.
  • Natural object interactionGrab, inspect and use objects naturally – intuitive even for first-time VR users.
